Here we are on month two of the Fiesta Movement - the car has become another part of my life - which is amazing - I love to run errands with it, and chat people up on it - Tomorrow I'm bringing it into the chop shop to get Sirius Radio installed in it - Ford also gave me the portable system, as well as the home dock - which really rocks.

Last night I celebrated this by heading over to the Symphony Hall and hearing the San Fransisco's Gay Men's Chorus sing 60s songs with Joan Baez. It was a wonderful evening topped with a meal at Absinthe.

Now the job is to transfer all the tapes and get a video out there within 3 weeks - Can I do this? I'm off to San Fransisco this weekend to shoot a video for John Niec and then I'm back for a few days. It was such a wonderful trip with my mom - I had to kidnap her and take her somewhere she'd never been - All this time people had been staring at the car (named M.A.U.D.E.) and shouting comments to us - even some kids wrote "Nice Car" on a paper and put it up against the window for us to see. Mom also said the car road smoothly and I had no problem putting a nice 5 hour ride in one day. More video to come guys... Hold on to your horses.

The Jim Beam Shoot

When it was time to think of a parody for the newest video contest for high profile liquor Jim Beam one thing came to mind. The term "Butterface" has been a round for a while - and even has it's own urban dictionary page. Since this a mock of what they provided - The image in my head was basically the same, with a little twist - what if the girl had a bag over her head? Could she be as sexy as her body is when it came to her face? This also allows us to take on what we would feel comfortable seeing in our minds, her mouth movements inside the bag are invsible, but as we watch more our mind figures out what she might look like inside the bag. Horrible or Fantasy-come-true, it's up to you.

Walking through the streets of Chicago today my eye gracefully landed on a key next to a trash can. Who would leave a key laying out like that? Especially one that looked like this one... The word coraline.com was printed on it - so I checked it out - Looks like another ad campaign for a movie... only this one is crazy cool.

I hold this key and see some online (going for $60 or more) and find that there is a nationwide scavenger hunt that is going on - when? This month - Let's hope that it's fun. I know it's already made my new year. :P

Keychain Animals

Part of the installment of Japanese Keychain fobs. I fell in love with attachments for our day-to-day electronics, both because they are attractive to the eye - but they also lend themselves to be very useful. I loose my cellphone many times on my persons, but with the cellphone fob, it allows a small animal or person to dangle right outside of my pocket. Pleasant for the on-looker, when my cellphone rings, I grab the little guy and yank my cellphone out of my already stuffed pocket.
These fobs were purchased at a store in Paris that I fell in love with, who sells each one of these for a single euro. Pretty good deal in my eyes, when you touch one of these things, it's amazing to think how they are made.

I came across this play from my friend Noah, who plays many characters throughout the story. Written by campy movie writer Charles Busch, the story follows two Lesbian Vampires on their quest for normalcy throughout the lifespan of eternity. Sounds like alot, but with the three small stories, tounge-in-cheek monolouges and many one liners, this play is something that will leave you thinking about it long after you've attended its' showing.

Playing through Nov. 17, seats are comfy, be sure to get one that reclines for better audience luxury.

Best Children's Movie Ever.

This is one of my favorite children's movies - I watched it all the time as a kid - it's called the Adventures of Mark Twain, and there is an element of suprise and fun around every corner - this segment, however a little disturbing out of context, brings kids to understand that there is good and evil in the world, and there are things beyond our control (earthquakes and storms) that can bring evil into our lives. We still go on, and as the other parts in this movie suggest, you should live your life to the fullest. I suggest you watch this movie before you say it's Banned. Parents should show this to their kids. - Ian

The Ad That Never Was.

I prayed to God to let me enter this contest. Last Monday I got together with my good friend Rachel and we put together this wonderful video for the Malibu Rum commercial contest on Youtube. Well, I edited this piece and tried uploading it to Youtube the day before the contest started - I was ready to win. I watched the other contestants and smiled at the fact that my commercial was fun, simply fun to the eye - and it sold Malibu to you - none of the other commercials did this. I upload to Youtube and enter the contest! I'm ready to win! It's a 25 thousand dollar prize, and I'm going to be walking out with it.

Alas, I find out that I cannot enter because my actress is 23. YOU HAVE TO HAVE PEOPLE AGE 25 OR OLDER TO BE IN A COMMERCIAL WHERE ALCOHAL IS PRESENT.

Let me make this clear - I lost my chances at 25,000 dollars, just because my actress was too young. Note to self, read fine print.

Needless to say I was sick to my stomach that whole day.

An Ad Analysis: The Affair

We see a man who is watching tv advertising Ketchup in a date-like service, and once questioned by who we can only assume is his wife, changes the channel. Another short instance where the guy is talking to a friend who is eating a sandwich with Ketchup in it really makes the viewer realize he's starting to seriously think about something. When he is about to sleep he turns the light off while saying 'goodnight' and we understand from the camera movement that he's sleeping with Mustard, who says 'goodnight' back.

There are a few things going on in this commercial.
While many could miss the actual unveiling of the 'wife' the first time through, the commercial has to play back all the way through to understand it's full meaning. The themes; Love, Devotion, Lust, and Temptation are played with, resulting in a somewhat mock setup of a very dull marriage. Those who love mustard, might want to try ketchup.

Of course this is my view of the commercial and why I made it this way - some people might watch this and not understand it - or make it seem to be something else - the fun part about this project is that when you give to the world, you will never know the amount of feedback you'll ever have.

Yesterday's shoot was rather fun - I taped at TRU and Leo Burnett. While at Leo Burnett I taped the group SiSe performing to an audience of staff workers, this is something they call "Artist In Residence" that brings talent to talk about their creative side and share with all the creatives at Leo, thus pairing with commercials and advertising potentials. It also creates a nice Friday break to the madness of work, a free concert with incredible artists.

Tru interview was with Scott Barton, Supervising Partner of Brasserie JO, Eiffel Tower, Nacional 27, Osteria Via Stato, Tru and President of Fine-Dining Division. It will piece together for a very nice segment.

Wonderful Architect Zoka Zola let us into her world as we questioned her on the choices she made while planning a few projects. Especially when the one we were in cushions the term work at home .
Biography
Zoka Zola was born in Rijeka, Croatia.
She studied architecture at Zagreb University in Croatia and at the Architectural Association in London. Zoka holds a Masters of Architecture degree. In 1990, she received the RIBA Student Award. She worked for a number of the well known studios: David Chipperfield Architects, Sir Michael Hopkins + Partners, OMA in London; Prof. Vittorio De Feo, Prof. Francesco Cellini, Prof. Paolo Portoghesi in Rome; and Prof Wilhelm Holzbauer in Vienna. Qualified as an architect in the UK in 1990, Zoka established her own studio in London. In 1995, she received the Young Architect of the Year Award, an annual award to one individual, in the UK. During her years in London, she also taught architecture as a Senior Lecturer at the Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, and she was a Unit Master at the Architectural Association in London. In 1997, Zoka moved to Chicago where she first worked at De Stefano and Partners and started teaching at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Later, Zoka established her own studio in Chicago and designed her own house, completed in July 2002, which won the Home of the Year Award as the best home in North America. Recently I saw Mama Mia at the wonderful Cadillac Theater downtown Chicago. I was so inspired by the ABBA songs of my past to remake one of my favorite songs. Gimme Gimme Gimme was a song that I somehow identified with while it was playing off our car tape deck on our way to Virginia every other summer. There was something about that bass line and those eerie tones and augmented chords that just struck me in my 10 year old little boy heart. Needless to say I wanted to stop at all the Cracker Barrels on the way too!

Yesterday I made the remix using garageband, and today I made the video while I was waiting for my boss to call. Speaking of which check out the Businesspov.com segments in the near future (Errand Solutions and HUBwear ) those were mine.

Picture the best kind of pleasure. Now, consider that could be your dentist. Recently I went to All Star Smiles in Bolingbrook, IL, and there they treat you with spa treatments as well as work on your dental. I know it sounds weird, but I think it is a pretty cool concept. The dentist was sick and tired of having people be afraid of going to him, so he reached out to make them comfertable. With limo services and high profile clients, he's doing quite well for a 3 month alive company. I'm editing the segment for Businesspov.com, so look for it soon. This week we are featuring the best of the year (even though we are 3 months old too!)

User Friendly Advertising

What happens when we allow other people to take the product advertising and make it their own? Recently I was using Office Max's newest advertising campaign which allowed users to play with various games and make sweaters, shake snowglobes, and turn your picture into a dancing elf. Another game was chiselling a piece of ice to make a sculpture. I tried my best at making something, but alas, the most I made was a puddle of water. I browsed the other sculptures and found someone had made a Nazi sign. This makes me wonder about the advertising aspect of allowing your viewers to manipulate and post your content, furthermore I found within the same day other signs of user targeted marketing,

Both sex and drugs are used in identifying with the product consumer. It's a wonder why the number "69" is used for the Navy banner, and why is a "420" reference used in a new Zipcar banner. I'm enjoying the turn of events with the advertising, but with the new user based gallery of manipulated advertising, brands have to watch out what the consumer might think of their product and it's associations.

Recently I've been travelling abroad and haven't been posting. I know - I'm not the biggest star on Turnhere.com, and I've looked at all the other Turnhere Blogs, and they haven't been up to date as well - so I thought that I would start to write on a single topic each week ( and we'll see if I can keep up with it )

This week is Internet Marketing in the Viral Video world.

I've been lucky enough to sit in on some meetings with some great companies who are still trying to figure out how to push marketing in the world of viral video. In one discussion, the client revealed that a study was taken that examines the audience's trust factor in a company's portrayal of a marketing "blog".
There is a very thin line of trust that is crossed when a consumer realizes that the "blog" he/she is reading is infact an advertising method. Let's say that the corperation is selling a fishtank. The fishtank company starts a blog and writes about how good the fishtank is to the consumer. Now let's also say that upon investigation the consumer finds an acutal blog of an employee of the fishtank company. The consumer will believe the real blog, moreso than the corperations "blog". This makes alot of sense, does it not?

Companies all over are trying to figure out how to incorperate blogging and viral video into their marketing.

Mentos and Coke. You might know the video; a roll of Mentos is poured into a bottle of Coke, and the result is a large amount of Coke shooting out of the bottle. This is a prime example of what could have been a marketing experiment. Upon the placement of this video on Youtube.com and other viral sites, the amount of Coke and Mentos slightly increased in sales.
How could a company do this with all of their products?

With the control of Youtube.com, and such other sites, we are now beginning to discover what turns on and off consumers to viral video. How can companies intergrate their product with videos to make us unknowingly want to obtain that product.

THAT is what the companies are trying to figure out =- and you know what... They have no clue how to yet.

Look at the hits on the most recent Youtube features. Ever since the corperation buy-out at 1.65 billion dollars, the site has become more of an advertising tool. In the past a featured video would have over 100 thousand hits, but now we are starting to see postings of featured videos with only hundreds of hits. The audience is understanding that this is starting to become an ad tool, instead of user-friendly media.

Turnhere.com generates a wonderful amount of traffic, and the business model of this site lends itself to become a marketing tool for companies flawlessly. Users watch the advertising shorts the same way they watch the filmmaker shorts. This model is perfect for the user, we know what is a commercial, and we'll still choose to watch it, because it will benifit us.

It is those other sites that are now owned by numerous companies who are deciding what they should feature to the world. Now ad a hint of marketing and advertising, and the consumer starts questioning.

When will they figure it out, and will we ever be able to tell when it happens. That's the scary part.

So this is the newest version of my art, after drawing the piece, I've now decided to use fingernail polish (I'm still testing it out) over the faces, giving them a subtle glow and gloss, It's really nice and is making the pen strokes darker and nicer to look at.

Truth is loyal RSS feeds and Directorian blogging friends - I have to be honest and tell you - Renton - my dear old computer is now just a piece of metal sitting on my table - awaiting his more powerful brother. I am getting the newest of the new computers - after the G4 problems - I have invested in my own computer that can process MOTION and will have many more bells and whistles. This will allow for even more projects to come my way. Sigh.

I've also incorperated a logo into my freelance - Onward to Accountant to hear about my tax plan. sigh again.

Why was I attracted to this video? How come I love it so much? I had the pleasure of accompanying my grandfather (who is an explorer member) to the annual event at the Waldorf Astoria in NY, in 1996, and 2001. Dinner was as unordinary as possible, with tarrantula, scorpion, and 14K gold potato chips. Now flash forward to this morning, and low and behold, those pineapples seem familiar, that tarantulla on a stick seems even more so - I ate one with my Aunt Roberta, I have to find the video of it, but what a night, and now YOU have a taste of what my family is like.

Miss America Comes to Chicago!

I was honored to have been requested to tape Miss America as she accepted many awards at the Chicago County Building yesterday. Afterward I was invited to sit and be a guest of Elizabeth Bertucci, and accompany the crowned beauty at the Chicago Yacht Club, where Mayor Daley and his wife (recently out of the hospital - band still on her hand) and ate a meal with Miss America Jennifer Berry. A light hearted Oklahoma resident, 24, proud brunette, I asked her various questions to get in the mentality of the reigning queen. She loves Blue Bell Icecream, and has a huge affiliation with M.A.D.D. Very fun and honestly a sweetheart she was accompanied by her chaperone Bonnie, who has been with the Miss America Pageant for over 35 years and traveling with them for 18 years. What wonderful stories Bonnie told. The lunch ended and I was invited to go to the Miss Illinois Pageant on Saturday - Now let's hope I can get off work to make it!
