Miss America Comes to Chicago!

I was honored to have been requested to tape Miss America as she accepted many awards at the Chicago County Building yesterday. Afterward I was invited to sit and be a guest of Elizabeth Bertucci, and accompany the crowned beauty at the Chicago Yacht Club, where Mayor Daley and his wife (recently out of the hospital - band still on her hand) and ate a meal with Miss America Jennifer Berry. A light hearted Oklahoma resident, 24, proud brunette, I asked her various questions to get in the mentality of the reigning queen. She loves Blue Bell Icecream, and has a huge affiliation with M.A.D.D. Very fun and honestly a sweetheart she was accompanied by her chaperone Bonnie, who has been with the Miss America Pageant for over 35 years and traveling with them for 18 years. What wonderful stories Bonnie told. The lunch ended and I was invited to go to the Miss Illinois Pageant on Saturday - Now let's hope I can get off work to make it!

New Odd Ad Campaign - LOVE IT

The following ad campaign is for G4's newest block of adult cartooning "Midnight Spank". Various bugs and animals take on a threatening role when the subject is not watching the show. Funny but defiantly freaky these ads are incredibly distinct.

グーグルの「検索エンジン」の凄さ、「玉石混淆問題」解決の意義等をちゃんと認識すると同時に、「検索」によって失われるものは何かを認識することも大切だと思います。梅田さんは『ウェブ進化論』の中でその点についても周到に触れていて(pp.153-158)、検索とはこちらが入力しなければ何も始まらない能動的なものであるがゆえに、検索によって我々が出会えるものは入力によって制限される、すなわち未知との出会いがなくなる、と。ただしこれは今のところテキスト検索での話で、マルチメディアコンテンツ検索の場合は「玉石混淆問題」解決にはほど遠い、とも。

実際に私は検索不可能な「未知との出会い」が楽しみでYouTubeを訪問します。もちろん、YouTube内部ではカテゴリーや多種多様なタグによる作品の検索は可能ですが、作品の中身は見てみなければ分からないという意味で少なくとも今のところ検索不可能なわけです。多分それこそがリピーターをどんどん増やしている要因のような気がします。著作権問題から自由な世界ですてきな才能に出会うことができる。そしてそういう才能を発揮する彼ら／彼女らには、いずれ相応しい評価と報酬が与えられるようになる。そんな新世界がすでに「夢物語」ではなく、実現一歩手前であることをYouTubeは証言しているように感じます。（蛇足ながら、自動検索が不可能なものは何か、それを明らかにして、何か作ろう、という発想で何かできないかな？実はほとんどのものはそうか？？）

すでに多くの才能が煌めいているはずのYouYubeですが、私が今日出会ったのはDirectorian。（本名はIan Sklarsky。シカゴ出身の24歳。大学では映画／ドキュメンタリーを先攻。いつも何か作っているフィルムメイカー。YouTubeにはすでに68本のオリジナル作品をアップ。）次の二本に惹かれました。
